The main reason: they do not eat meat.
I realize that this is extremely obvious, but I like meat... in fact it is the best food in the world. So good, that it is also the most popular food in the world. This is because there is so much you can do with it and so many kinds: beef, pork, mutton, many kinds of fish, chicken, turkey, antelope... the list could go on forever.
So it sickens me when people say that they don't eat meat. It is like denying the best thing in the world. The equivalent is to say: "I don't breath." Both of these things are vital for survival.
As John Cleese once said, "If God did not intend for us to eat animals, then why did he make them out of meat?"

I dont think it's wrong to eat meat, and i dont think it's wrong to not eat meat.. although, the human, viewed from an animal perspective(vegetarians often forget this point about us being an animal), is a predator. We have been killing animals sense the first human, so it would be unnatural for me to not want to eat meat, ofcourse some religions forbid som kind of meat, and some people cant eat meat because of stomach problems, but i belive that man is supposed to eat meat to feel good. you can have a good health from not eating meat, but i have a hard time beliving that you feel better not to.

People choose not to eat meat because they either dont like the taste of it or they dont feel its a humane thing to do. For me, i personally do not feel comfortable eating anything that has a face. I have seen thousands of videos of how animals are treated in the process of the slaughtering anf or me, it is vile. I know steak tastes good. I also know that if i was to slice off some of my thigh and cook it, it would probably taste like chicken.

I don't eat meat. I'm not going to critisize anyone for their choices. I however, I know that their is a food chain and we are at the top. But just because we have superiority doesn't mean we get to torture the animals. They can't understand what we are doing to them, and if they do- why are they there? Next time you eat meat, think about these questions. Did this animal have any children? A mate? I chanse to see the outside world and eat real grass off the ground? What did it see before it died? actually according to the 10% rule of energy: whenever you drop a trophic level of consumer, you lose 90% of it's energy. ex. the light energy from the sun is given to corn, but a herbivore consumes 10% of the energy the corn recieves (because of the 90% loss). A carnivore only recieves 10% of the energy that the herbivore recieves from the plant.
This means that if you eat animals, than you are recieving a lot less energy than if you just ate that animal's food source.
FYI: I am an omnivore, and I have nothing against eating meat. But I respect vegetarians.

I am a vegetarian and i LOVE meat but i decided to give it up because i didnt agree with killing the animals. You say the list of meat can go on forever, what about vegetables? Peppers,peas,carrots,broccoli,artichokes,...that list could go on forever too and just because it really pisses me off when people say "you have to have protein in your diet, you have to eat or you wont survive!" There is no issue of whether it is natural or not to eat meat. We are humans and now natural instinct has taken second place to our own mental choice.
I am not against vegetarians though I am against the vast majority of them who will still wear leather shoes, bags, still shampoo there hair with animal tested products and think that they can live guilt free.

Well..I must say..I had a great time reading all the comments. I don't get why people are being so mean =P ..Yeah..I guess god did put animals on the earth ..uhm maybe to eat or maybe to cuddle..who knows people do both..even in China they eat dogs..but to us in American maybe thats "not normal" or maybe to some people it is. A poster said he didn't want vegetarians to set up vegetarian restaurants. What is wrong with a vegetarian restaurant? It allows those who have made that personal choice to get food that suits their dietary needs. Meat eaters don't HAVE to eat there, you know!
Overall, being a vegetarian in a meat-addicted family, I know both sides. i think it is, however, as personally as religion and thus should be discussed sparsely, and tolerated. I am not going to make you stop eating meat. In turn, you will not make me eat meat. And vice versa. There are worse people out there who have done things worse than eating or abstaining from meat.
Oh, and to those who says eating meat as natural- it isn't. At least, not for humans. The first humans ate what exclusively plants, which shows in out tooth structure (lack of extremely sharp teeth to tear meat) and many other things. However, after the first ice age, most vegetation was frozen and these early people were forced to kill an animal, though, as humans are evolved animals themselves, their bodies weren't built for hunting.
