The Best Stereotypes: Ninjas

The next character in the Best Stereotypes series is the ever popular ninja. Dressed entirely in black, and weilding swords and ninja stars, the ninja is the assassin and spy of the ancient Japanese world.

Trained in many aspects of warfare, a ninja could disappear at will and seemingly teleport out of harms way. They are even cooler than pirates! But it my research I discovered that this is not the case. They were mostly farmers, who wore farming clothes, and weilding farming impliments. Not so cool after all. But they did exist, and did have a kind of honour system. These elite warriors could very well have transformed they work items into weapons of war!

Even though they have been stereotyped by all the movies made about them, they still retain a mystereous charm, making them one of the most loved, and respected of the stereotypes created.

The Best Stereotypes: Pirates

This is the first installment in the Best Stereotype series. Pirates have been around for centuries, but are known mostly for their long beards, peg legs, parrots, and buried treasure. Even though this is far from the truth (Modern day pirates mostly use speed boats equipped with some form of semi-automatic machine gun), it is still really cool!

The classic stereotype of a pirate is the most famous, Blackbeard. Some of the qualities of pirates came from him (obviously the long beard). Another item that a 'true' pirate would always have is a hook, eg. the pirate from Peter Pan. Lots of different people, storys, and other influences have changed our perseption of the pirate.

Even though what most people think about pirates is not true, the stereotype still remains extremely cool!

The Consumerism of Christmas

The capitalist society in which we live has dramatically changed Christmas. Peoples greed has overcome any religious significance in the urge to aquire more material possessions. Instead of a religious holiday, it has become a business owners dream: every person must buy several purchases every year.

Over the years Christmas has been changing. Once it was a religious holiday, celebrating Jesus' birth. This has changed so much, that many people who celebrate Christmas do not even go to Church on this sacred day. And even some non-Christians have been influenced by our society into giving and more importantly receiving gifts.

More importance has been placed on material possessions rather than religion, and the real significance of Christmas day has been polluted. While the gift of giving remains, it has still been diluted away from the original meaning. And this is not a good thing. Capitalism has merged a religion and daily life so much, that they are beginning to diverge even more. Christmas, while once a religious day, has now become more of a business sale opportunity.

The Meaning of Life

For thousands of years people have wondered: "Why am I here?"
Many people have also tried to answer this; one answer being '42' (The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy), but no real answer really struck true... until now. That's right, I have found the meaning of life. No-one would ever have come to a blog to find an answer to this famous question. Most would go to religion (to achieve a union with God), some would go within themselves (to achieve as much wealth/material belongings as possible), but no-one would've ever asked me.

I will leave you hanging in suspense for a while, while I reinforce the intensity of what I have discovered. Scientists have tried to discover where we came from, but not where we are going. THe Big Bang theory, as well as more religious views, do not look into the future, which is where the answer takes us.

Before I reveal the answer, the question must be seen. In my view the question is: 'Why the hell were we put on a pile of dirt and left alone to fend for ourselves?' The answer is not as complex as it seems. We are God's (If there is one, if not then I need to rethink this entire post) playtoys, his science project. He watches us for amusement, and he is very found of action movies. As you know, a good movie involves some kind of revenge and often murder. This is also the case with God's shows. He is very much like us, only much more powerful and supreme.

There you have it. The meaning of life is now yours to work on, and improve. As for me, I will try to make this world more interesting, and not some kind of Soap Opera!

The Original Mud Map

Mud map's have been around for centuries, and are practically a basic map drawn on the ground, hence mud, or something similar. But I was really astonished when a friend of mine emailed me this picture. I do not know where it came from originally so I cannot give anyone their due credit.
